Program Enhancement Core

The Program Enhancement Core of the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center on Aging will provide both intellectual and organizational leadership in developing a research emphasis in Geroscience in Oklahoma City as well as the State of Oklahoma. To stimulate interaction among faculty, the Program Enhancement Core will organize an annual Oklahoma Geroscience Symposium where faculty at the various institutions describe their research. In addition, Investigators receiving pilot grants from the Research Development Core are invited to attend the Symposium and present their data.

Geropathology Research Resource

The Geropathology Research Resource provides investigators with a unique comprehensive pathological analysis of mice focused on pathological lesions that change with age and potentially play a role in aging of the animal.
The Geropathology Research Resource uses the Geropathology Grading Platform (GGP), recently developed by the Geropathology Research Network (Ladiges et al., 2016; 2017a,b), which allows investigators to assess biological aging in mice by measuring the pathological status of a wide range of organs and tissues. The GGP allows one to generate a composite lesion score for each tissue as well as the whole animal, which can be compared to another mouses values to measure changes with age or with an aging intervention.
